COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed for DMD BFA students in their final semester to work togethering in planning and executing the BFA Degree Exhibition, which consists of an in person exhibition, in person screening event, and, if the university is open during graduation, a physical exhibition at the Jorgensen Gallery. In this course, DMD BFA seniors will work in committees to prepare exhibition and promotional materials, plan the logistics of an in person exhibition and online screening event, and market the exhibition.

“DMD 4015 – Degree Exhibition” is one of a set of courses in the DMD BFA senior project experience. There are two DMD 4015 sections taught by Heejoo Kim in Storrs and Sue Huang in Stamford. Students will work across campuses to coordinate a joint exhibition. DMD BFA seniors will also take “DMD 4025 Portfolio & Professional Development” and, in the Spring and Fall semesters, “DMD 4075 – Senior Project,” where they will develop a self-defined senior project that will be showcased at the Degree Exhibition. The capstone curriculum is designed to guide students through the process and help students create the final project that best showcases their development as a DMD major at UConn.

Your class participation will consist of active engagement during synchronous class sessions and timely and successful completion of exhibition committee tasks. Successful students will be punctual, reliable, prepared, respectful, and active class participants. By being an engaged and professional participant in online sessions, you will contribute to the overall learning experience of all, and you will set yourself up for success.

If you must be absent from class sessions, please email Professors and the other members of your committee. Unless absolutely impossible, send notice prior to your absence. Providing adequate notice is professional etiquette and a demonstration of active participation. It is your responsibility to contact me for information you may have missed. Please note that being absent does not change a submission deadline unless prior arrangements have been made.

COMMUNICATION

Good communication is essential to our successful class experience. Please let me know if you anticipate any conflicts with any of the class sessions or due dates, or if you need any special accommodation in order to succeed in this course. The sooner I know about any exceptional circumstances the better, and the more likely we are to come up with alternatives.

If you encounter any questions or challenges, please let me know. I am here to help! Please try to email at least 48 hours before a deadline. Please try to compose emails with a salutation and closing, using complete, grammatical sentences. This is good professional practice!

Good communication is especially important for our distance learning experience this semester. We will inevitably encounter challenges with internet connectivity, and good communication, patience, and flexibility will be key to our class’ success.

AUTHENTICATION

The University of Connecticut is required to verify the identity of students who participate in distance learning or online courses and to establish that students who register in these courses are the same students who participate in and complete the course activities and assessments and receive academic credit. Verification and authentication of student identity in this course will include using HuskyCT as the primary access point for course content, and using video-based synchronous virtual class sessions, small group meetings, and individual student meetings and confirming student identity via the UConn photo in StudentAdmin.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

You are responsible for ensuring that original work is correctly attributed. You must give clear and complete attributions for the work of others in your own productions as well as in any written work. This is especially important for the public exhibition context. Plagiarism (either digital or written) will not be tolerated and may result in failure of the course or expulsion. Please refer to The Student Code: community.uconn.edu/the-student-code-preamble/

ACADEMIC ACCOMMODATIONS
